BING! BING! BING! We have ourselves a winner!
Mama Emotions...
I work hard everyday trying to get my oldest son, yes you Charley, to play on your own. From time to time he gets going and blesses me with the sound of his imagination running wild without my prompting. Without naps everyday I have a hard time fitting in time to fold the laundry, prep dinner, dishwasher unloaded, ...basically, get things done. So for him to grace me with time is always a treat. Some days tantrums, begging, and tears occur ...by me...trying to figure out what he can do so that I can do my thing. I treasure our time but I also need to get things done and it is very important for independent play.
Then there are days where he is off to pee wee soccer practice. I get to see him look over at me as they put on a pinny to signal what team he is on...how proud he looked to wear one for the first time. I swear he grew an inch and there was a bit more skip in his step. I am overwhelmed with love. Then we hustle to the car and I drop him at park group and I realize that he isn't with me for a little bit and I miss him. Even though whining was his choice of communication all morning. I think as a mom, especially one that stays home and spends all hours with her little ones, you find yourself craving play dates or activities that entertain your child so you can potentially have a moment to yourself. It makes me laugh as I see all my mommy friends pull up to the park looking like they are on a mission, all hustling our kids out of the car, slapping on sunscreen, giving a kiss...and then as you turn you see their shoulders relax and a smile appear on their face. But then like me, I can predict they then wrestle with the feelings of worry, anxiety, guilt, happiness, and longing. I drive away excited to grocery shop with just one child, clean up a little, check my email...knowing Charley is having a total blast with his little friends...but then I also wrestle with those feelings of guilt and longing. Missing him, feeling guilty for rushing him out the door - does he know how much I love him, is he safe, will they make him wash his hands after he goes potty in that disgusting bathroom. No doubt, 2 minutes after getting in the car he will begin whining about lunch, what he wants to do all afternoon, and I will once again spiral into the crabby mommy who wonders when he will be busy again so I can miss him! Makes me tired just thinking about the emotions a mama feels in 2 hours!

Grace in Small things #8
1. Good dinner: Salmon on the grill, corn on the cob, and brown rice. Don't forget the Honeyweiss!
2. Peace: A good book to fall asleep to!
3. Anticipation: Boys that go to bed early!
4. Gardening: Tomato plants with tons of green tomatoes.
5. Active mama: Time with my boys at the pool again today! Plus a 50 min. walk! And I weeded the garden!

Loved this blog post today...
So I just got back from a fun weekend and was looking through photos of the weekend and realized that there was one picture of me. It was one at the parade where I handed the camera to Ed and said, "Can you take a picture of me with the boys?" I have spoken of this phenomenon to many mommy friends...how we, as moms, are rarely in photos...most often it is a good thing or a choice because I am rarely happy with photos of myself, but sometimes when I take it in and think about how in 30 years when the boys look back they will only know that I was behind the camera, it makes me sad. So I am vowing to ask Ed more often to take more pictures with me in them...not because I want pictures with me in them...but because the boys might want them ...someday.
This is a blog I follow often and today her post made me smile because I just had a similar conversation with my mom recently. And had just been thinking about how I am not in any of the pictures from the weekend. I still have my two classes to take at the camera shop where I bought my new camera and I am hoping Ed comes along so that he can learn how to use it too!

Busy day...ending with some guacamole and a margarita....
Started the day dropping Charley off at a friends at 8am so he could go to park program at 9am while we were at Henry's 18 month doctor appointment. Then Henry and I hit Target for some groceries. Returned home, put the groceries away, attempted to unpack a bit, and then it was time to go get Charley. We had lunch, put Hank down for a nap and I mowed our lawn while Charley puttered around outside. Then Charley and I made chalk paint, I attempted to unpack again, and then Henry woke up. We walked 40 minutes to and from a park - I was dressed way to warm. We came back and hung out in the little blow up pool....then it was time for dinner. I made a pan of my Mexican stuffed shells and some homemade guacamole! I am addicted to guacamole lately and I gave it a try tonight and it was really good. Of course I had my camera on the wrong setting so the picture doesn't do justice to the vibrant green color. But I took a bunch of recipes and made my own recipe with the ingredients I thought were in it at the store...
2 avocados mashed up
1/4 red onion partly minced and partly finely chopped
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 tomato without seeds and gunk :)
That's it! It was pretty good...for a first time!

Being an Aunt from afar....

I have been so excited these last 16 days to share any good news regarding baby Eli and Mama Raina. It has of course been sad to share the sad news...but now that things are going so well I am realizing that it has been like sharing my own baby. So as things settle down for Raina at home she will eventually share the blog she started before she had Eli and she will begin updating her journey as a mommy. So I will savor every little update I still get to share. Here are some pictures of baby Eli! He is home and settling in to life with his family. He is a very content little boy.
Eli is home!

Eli returned home on Sunday after a 16 day stay at the hospital with his mama and papa. They are home and giving everything a try. They went on a stroller walk already and have tried out the various napping spots! Grandma Barb is there today! Andy will be home tomorrow and Wednesday! I can imagine how good it feels to be home, to have your own cozy chairs to snuggle and nurse in, your own bed to nap (remember Raina-sleep when baby sleeps), and your kitchen to make some food ...if you have time! Enjoy your time little sister! I hope to visit soon!
